"Im thankful we had insurance that put us in a position for the future. Had we not had that, we would have not have survived the flood. That’s the truth. We might not have had the type of coverages we did had it not been for Spiris, who developed and proposed those coverages."
Medical Professional Liability and Malpractice Insurance quotes
This one might surprise you.
Medical malpractice premiums actually dropped in 2008 and were forecast to decline further throughout 2009, according to the Physician Insurers Association of America. Is the decline related to state laws that cap malpractice claims? No, studies show that such caps do not result in lower premiums. Instead, the drop is attributable to effective risk-mitigation techniques. For example, anesthesiologists have kept premiums steady by using devices that alert them to potentially fatal problems in the operating room. The result: Less fatalities and lower premiums.
As most health practitioners know, however, malpractice insurance continues to be one of the highest costs of running a practice. This is particularly true for specialties with high lawsuit exposure, such as obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/Gyn practices).
Spiris advocates a proactive approach to malpractice risk management that is different from the “defensive medicine” approach. We help our clients identify the most common malpractice risks for their particular specialties, and show them how to reduce the risk and lower their premiums.
These practices apply to all areas of medicine and include:
- Physicians
- Nurses
- Occupational Therapists
- Physical Therapists
- Home health care workers
- Pharmacists
- Technicians
- Psychologists
- Therapists
- Counselors
- Dentists
- Orthodontists
